Submit to the Spring 2018 Edition

Due to an unprecedented number of submissions, The Oakland Review has closed its submission period sooner than our original deadline of March 30th. We greatly appreciate all of the contributions to our journal and apologize for the change in plans. Submissions will open again on September 1st. We hope to hear from you then!

Submission guidelines are as follows:

    Who can submit

    • Carnegie Mellon undergraduates, graduates and alumni
    • Any interested writers & artists.

    What you can submit


    • Up to 5 pieces
    • Please use 12 point font
    • We prefer Word or RTF files


    • Up to 2 pieces
    • Each piece may be no longer than 20 pages
    • Please use 12 point, double-spaced type
    • We accept fiction, creative non-fiction, screenwriting and plays
    • We prefer Word or RTF files


    • Up to 5 pieces
    • We prefer large JPEGs for evaluation, but also accept high
      quality PDFs, TIFF images and RAW images
    • High resolution images, preferably greater than 200ppi
    • Artwork is evaluated for use as the issue's cover as well as a
      glossy insert in the center of the journal

    General Rules

    • All work must be previously unpublished
    • Only our editors see the names and bios of submitters, all other
      board members read submissions blind

    How to submit


    Submissions by email will still be accepted this year, but are not preferred. If you are submitting by email:

    • We accept Word or RTF attachments
    • Use your name and the genre(s) of the pieces in the subject line. (e.g. Poetry Submission: J. Smith)
    • In the body of the email, include:
      • The titles and genres of the attached work
      • A bio of 100 words or less
      • Your preferred email address
      • Your name as you would like it to appear in print
