Our submissions are now closed for vol. XLIX.

For 50 years, the OR has been featuring wonderful pieces by contributors across the globe, and it is with sadness, but immeasurable gratitude, that we announce the closing of this chapter. Starting in 2024, the Oakland Review would like to focus on our immediate community --- our local network of students, faculty, and the greater Pittsburgh area. This means we will only consider submissions from the Pittsburgh area for our primary volumes going forward.

To all contributors who have worked with us before — you have made a deep, lasting impact in the history of our organization. The heart of CMU beats dedication, drive, and innovation, but it can also breed insecurity, rigidity, and apprehension. It is important to us that there is a place for students to engage with one another in a reflective, transformative, and creative way. With the new change, we hope to continue down the path you have paved for us, in a way that more closely meets the needs of students on our campus.

For our S24 issue, vol. XLIX (49), we have chosen the theme "Bloom." It is a call to nature; a wild expansion; a concurrent process; and a celebration of growth and rebirth. We'd like to hear your thoughts on it. Submissions will be open for poetry, prose, and art from all members of the Pittsburgh community. You do not need to be a CMU student to participate. Submissions will be open from Dec. 5, 2023, to Feb. 1, 2023.
